Tarakan, 13 October 2025 <\/b>\u2013 The Governor of North Kalimantan officially inaugurated the Tarakan LNG Storage and Regasification Facility, a tangible contribution by PT PLN Energi Gas (PLN EG), a subsidiary of PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI). This facility marks a significant milestone in the implementation of the National Gasification Program, which aims to accelerate the transition of oil-fired power plants to clean and efficient gas.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

The inauguration was attended by the Mayor of Tarakan, the Head of the North Kalimantan Regional Intelligence Agency (Kabinda), the Director of Oil and Gas Infrastructure Planning and Development at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Director of Power Generation Management at PT PLN (Persero), the Chairman of the Board and CEO of PLN EPI, as well as members of the PLN Group management and representatives of the North Kalimantan Regional Government, and was witnessed by strategic partners and relevant stakeholders. \n<\/p>\n\n

The Tarakan LNG facility is the first national pilot project to integrate the entire LNG supply chain from production sources, transportation, and storage to regasification under the full coordination of the PLN Group. \n<\/p>\n\n

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) for this project is sourced from the Kayan Mini LNG Plant, shipped via ISO tanks by sea to the Port of Malundung in Tarakan, and then distributed via an LNG trucking system to the regasification unit, located approximately 5.3 kilometers away. The regasified gas is then channeled through a pipeline network to the Gunung Belah Gas-Fired Power Plant (16.6 MW) and the Kampung Satu Gas-Fired Power Plant (14 MW) to support the electricity grid in Tarakan and the surrounding areas. \n<\/p>\n\n

\u201cThrough this facility, the PLN Group demonstrates that small-scale LNG (mini-LNG) infrastructure can be operated safely, efficiently, and in accordance with international standards to serve island regions,\u201d said the CEO of PLN Energi Gas. \n<\/p>\n\n

The implementation of this project has a significant impact on energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. With a regasification capacity of 5 MMSCFD, this facility is capable of replacing up to approximately 140,000 liters of fuel per day, reducing fuel costs by approximately 35% compared to diesel, and saving up to Rp14 billion annually in power plant operating costs. Additionally, this project employs 65% local workers, thereby providing direct socioeconomic benefits to the people of Tarakan. \n<\/p>\n\n

\u201cThe Tarakan Gasification Project is concrete proof that the energy transition is not just a concept but is already a reality on the ground; it also demonstrates our commitment to carrying out the mandate entrusted to us by PLN EPI,\u201d stated the CEO of PLN EG. \n<\/p>\n\n

\u201cThrough the synergy between PLN EPI and PLN EG, we are ensuring that primary energy is available in a more efficient and cleaner way, and paving the way toward an Indonesia that is more energy-independent and competitive,\u201d he continued. \n<\/p>\n\n
